John Franklin Hood / Sandra Garcia 1970

Hi,

as a response to Bruce Davis' parole
viewtopic.php?f=99&t=1492

I thought this dune buggy issue could be of interest:

- license plate was described as 'Sprite', the family dune buggy had the license plate 'ITE 102', therefore chances are 1:26x26x26=17576 that it is the same car
- same color x10
- same bug-eyed lamps x5
- same roll bar x2
- same area (Spahn ranch / Santa Barbara)

leading to a statistically valid identification by chances of est. 1:1,757,600.

Because a fishbone knife was found under the bodies of Hood/Garcia, a DNA or fingerprint identification may become possible. Furthermore, the assailants had wounds on their forehead/hands, possibly leaving scars on their skin.

All this, imo, should be enough physical evidence to investigate who had driven the 'ITE 102' dune buggy inside the Manson family, especially as the car (as well as the fishbone knife) had been confiscated and should therefore still be in the storage of e.g. Santa Barbara Police Department.

It is now officially reported to the Santa Barbara Police Department, mainly because the link between the 'ITE 102' dune buggy and the Hood/Garcia case is mainly new information. It is now up to the authorities to decide if they will continue to investigate the Hood/Garcia case in connection with this Manson family's car.

Meanwhile I contacted the owner of www.lsb3.com as to where he had received the pictures of this dune buggy from.

That Bug-eyed Sprite dune buggy was taken as evidence in the October 1969 Barker Ranch raids in Inyo County. Since it was in police custody as evidence against Manson Family members how would it have played a part in the Hood Garcia murders in Santa Barbara in February 1970?

Some of the pictures at LSB3.com are from the Life magazine December 19, 1969 article on the Manson Family and many of the ones of the dune buggies were taken by the National Park Service during the October 1969 Barker Ranch raids.

Here is a 2011 article that was in the Santa Barbara newspaper about the Hood Garcia murders as well as the Domingos Edwards murders. It says that the Manson Family was looked at for the Hood Garcia murders but no evidence that they committed the murders has ever been found.

Good news in the Hood/Garcia case:

The Santa Barbara Police Department will reinvestigate the issue with the yellow "ITE 102" dune buggy.

Today I received a response from Santa Barbara Police department as a confirmation that my report has been approved and that it may be investigated. The message is not an automatically generated but individually approved by a specific police employee. They also gave the case a new identification number.

Your online report has been approved and the permanent case number is 2014-200267.

Please note in the attached report that sensitive information has been replaced with *** in order to maintain privacy in emails.

Thank you for submitting your report to the Santa Barbara Police Department. Please note that only crimes committed in the City of Santa Barbara will be investigated by the Santa Barbara Police Department. If your crime occurred outside the City of Santa Barbara, complete a report with the agency where the crime occurred. Residents of the City of Santa Barbara may submit identity theft reports to the Santa Barbara Police Department but please note, it will be forwarded to the applicable agency where the crime occurred.

Your report will be reviewed to determine if follow-up investigation is practicable. Key factors that merit follow-up include but are not limited to; if a crime occurred, if a known suspect exists and jurisdictional considerations. If the department finds that your case qualifies for follow-up investigation, you will be contacted by a member of the Santa Barbara Police Department. Even if the suspect is unknown, it is important to report crimes that have occurred. Thank you for taking the time to contact the Santa Barbara Police Department.

So now the Santa Barbara Police Department is able to investigate the Manson family's yellow dune buggy in connection with the Hood/Garcia homicide (until this report, they were not even able to connect the case to any Manson family members at all, although they actually had suspected them to having committed the crime.).

Good luck Santa Barbara Police Department.

I found an article dated Sept. 1 1969 about a person named John Franklin Hood, along with others, having been arrested in a heroin drug raid. The age doesn't quite match up with the John Franklin Hood that was killed but the middle name is rather distinctive. I'm not trying to victimize the victim but wonder if the two are one in the same and if drugs might have been the reason for the murders.

I do know that the John Franklin Hood that was killed was a highly decorated veteran who served in Vietnam. I also know that a lot of military men came back from Vietnam as heroin addicts. Apparently they did heroin to deaden the reality of what they were sent there to do.

I really have not been able to nail down if the person that was arrested is the same as the person that was killed.
