Schoolmate of Cheri Jo Bates that lived in Vallejo

Postby morf13 » Thu Mar 28, 2013 11:10 pm

This thread pertains to a fellow student of Cheri Jo Bates in Riverside. He wound up living in Vallejo during the Zodiac crimes. He was stocky, barrel chested, and sometimes wore glasses(similar to many of the Z descriptions). He looked very similar to the sketch of the strange man seen watching a group of girls at Lake Berryessa on the day of the attacks there. For these reasons, I consider him a pretty good suspect. If,like me (and like Zodiac writing expert Sherwood Morrill), you believe that Zodiac lived in Riverside in 1966-67, then you have to consider guys like this suspect, as he and Bates undoubtedly knew one another, not to mention likely moved in the same circles. Cheri was a cheerleader, and her Fiance,a Jock. This suspect was also involved in sports at their high school

Hi Morf, where did you find info that Sherwood Morrill belived that Zodiac lived in Riverside? (in the 1966-67 period or any other time period)?
I ask because I have never seen any info on that.
I only know of that Sherwood Morrill was sure that; the desktop poem, the 3 "Bates had to die", and the "Cofession letter was produced by the same writer that wrote the other San Francisco confirmed Zodiac killer letter.

Sherwood stated that the author of the Bates letters was also the same author of the Zodiac letters. He stated that the Bates letters were "unquestionably" the work of Zodiac. He didn't actually say that Zodiac lived in Riverside, but if he is correct and Z wrote the Bates letters, we see the desktop, and letters being spread over a period of 6 months in Riverside, so I therefore assume he lived there. I don't see Zodiac travelling all the way down to Riverside over a period of several months to mail letters,I think he actually lived there when the letters were mailed 66-67.

I am at an impass as to finding more info on this guy, he's kept off the radar

OK thanks Morf:)
I just think it is important that it is clarifyed that Sherwood Morrill never stated that he belived that Zodiac lived in Riverside, wich was the impression I got from your statment in your previous post.
I mean the fact that Zodiac had (probably) sent communications in the Riverside area, spread over a period of 6 months, doesent mean he necessarily lived there, he could have visited family there, he could have bizz to do there etc etc.

In defense (so to speak) of Morf's presumption that Z hailed from Riverside: as an exponent of Occam's Razor, I plump for the simplest answer to any question as usually being correct. Certainly, the simplest answer should be the first investigated and proved/disproved. Only afterward should alternatives be considered.

I agree with this. Seems pretty unlikely that Zodiac would have travelled 6 hours each way from Solano County to Riverside to mail letters in the case of Cheri Bates. He would have needed to be there at least 3 different times)each mailing in Nov 66, and April, 67,and then also to have done the desk poem. I think it's more likely he lived or worked in that area at the time of the letters. Add to that the fact the desk poem was found in a school library storage area, that could point to a student aged person being the author, and to me at least, it seems very likely Bates knew her killer and felt comfortable enough to spend time in a dimly lit alley instead of going to the safety of the library where she had just come from. Add that all together, and I think its highly likely that the letter writer (Zodiac) could be her age, and was a Riverside resident in 66-67,which would eliminate a bunch of suspects

Dag MacLugh and Morf, you are both missing my point.
What I wanted to be clarified was that Sherwood Morrill actually never stated that he belived that Zodiac lived in Riverside.

Maybe it´s just me, but in al respect I realy think it is of great importance not to present assumptions as fatcs.

Now, concerning wheter Zodiac lived in the Riverside area in the 1966-67 period, I agree that is indeed possible, but still, other possibilities is IMHO also an option.
