Adding your Avatar

Postby traveller1st » Wed Apr 03, 2013 12:30 pm

Adding an avatar isn't too complicated but your image needs to be a specific size or rather no bigger than in both dimensions and file size.

Maximum dimensions; width: 90 pixels, height: 90 pixels, file size: 6.00 KiB.

For those without image editing software this can be done easily, and for free, online. There may be avatar creation sites that will allow you to create one from scratch and size it as part of the process. If however you just want to use your usual avatar here is a site for creating a re-sized version for uploading.

http://picasion.com/resize-image/

Once there you will see this box on the right of the screen.

First click on CHOOSE FILE beside where it says Image and load your file. Next click on the SIZE drop down menu and choose CUSTOM at the bottom.

In the box that appears enter 90 as your size.

Click the Resize image button at the bottom and your image will be resized and shown as such. Right click on your image and save image as. You can now upload this file as your avatar and it will be the right size.

To add your avatar click on the 'User control panel' link at the top of the page on the left hand side. Once there click on the 'Profile' tab then click on 'Edit avatar' from the menu tabs on the left. Choose file again, open your new re-sized image, click ok then click the 'Submit' button.

All done.

I've made mine animated. It was a bit of work.

I thought about doing one but I've become slightly phobic about changing mine. Looks good.

Normaly, my avatar is animated. I have tried everything to get it to work, but cannot figure it out. I can put it in the body or as my signature, but not "moving" when I use it as my avatar.

Here is the page I got it from with a few options. I have tried saving it and resizing it, but it remains a still shot. Anyone have any ideas?

It has to be 90x90 pixels or less, and yours is too large. But I'm pretty good at this stuff, and I will try to get it working for you.
Give me a while, but I'll see if I can do it.

Sorry to scooch in front but I wanted to see how to do this in photoshop to get it to 90x90 and under 6.0k. Just had to fiddle the color palette to get the file size down as it was sitting around 9.5 k and of course, as Glurk says, the original was physically too large dimension wise at 100x100.

This one should work.

Trav I followed your instructions in the first post and put 90 in the custom size box but when I resized the image it came out 90x120 and I could not upload the avatar. What am I doing wrong?

Presumably your image isn't square. Try putting in 60 and that should get your second dimension down to 90.

or use this
